61 pro-AL lawyers jailed under interim govt demand Yunus trial

A group of 61 pro-Awami League lawyers, who were previously arrested during the tenure of the interim government, held a human chain on Tuesday demanding the trial of former Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus.

The protest was staged at approximately 12.30pm in front of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court. Protesters carried placards and chanted various slogans during the event.  During the event, the protesters chanted various slogans, including “We want Yunus’s trial”.

Speaking at the gathering, lawyer Mahfuzur Rahman Likhon, expressed sharp condemnation regarding the current professional environment. He alleged that pro-Awami League lawyers are being prevented from participating in elections and are being obstructed from conducting legal cases.

In addition to the demand for the former Chief Adviser’s trial, Likhon called for the withdrawal of cases filed against other lawyers who remain in prison under the interim government.

Other released lawyers in attendance at the human chain included Advocate Obaidul Islam, Advocate Liton Mia, Advocate Touhid, and Advocate Shamim Al Sohag Saiful
