Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman left Dhaka for Moscow on Sunday on a three-day official visit to Russia aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

The Foreign Minister is accompanied on this mission by Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir. Khalilur is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on Tuesday.

On the second day of the visit, the Foreign Minister will lead a bilateral meeting with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov.

He is also expected to pay courtesy calls to several other senior representatives of the Russian government.

Sources said the discussions will prioritise key infrastructure and economic interests, most notably the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project. The agenda also includes deepening energy cooperation, trade expansion, and the overall strengthening of economic ties.

Furthermore, the two sides are expected to discuss their respective positions and potential cooperation in navigating the challenges posed by international sanctions following the war in Ukraine.
