Fire Service personnel rescued a cat on Tuesday afternoon after it remained stranded for about four and a half hours atop a 30-foot date palm tree in the Jamtala area of Arbabpur Union, Jashore Sadar.
The cat was brought down unharmed, drawing praise from local residents who had watched the hours-long ordeal.
Eyewitnesses said the cat somehow climbed to the top of the tall date palm tree around midday but then could not make its way down. Trapped above, the animal kept crying out continuously.
Local youths initially tried to bring the cat down using sticks and ladders but failed. After about four hours passed, locals alerted the Jashore Fire Service.
A Fire Service team quickly arrived at the scene. Using special ladders and nets, they managed to rescue the cat unharmed after about half an hour of careful effort. When the cat was brought down, local onlookers applauded and thanked the Fire Service personnel.
Local resident Al-Amin said, “The way the cat was screaming from above really made us feel sorry for it. We tried many times but could not bring it down. The way the Fire Service came and saved the cat is truly commendable.”
Housewife Rehena Begum echoed the sentiment, praising the rescue team’s dedication.
Jashore Fire Service team leader Rezaul Islam said, “Our team went to the scene immediately after receiving the news. The tree was quite tall and thorny, so we faced some difficulty. However, our members rescued the cat with great caution without causing any injury.”
He added, “Saving the life of any animal, alongside humans, is also part of our duty.”
