Hundreds of young innovators from schools, colleges, and universities across Bangladesh gathered at Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) on Saturday to showcase their creative projects at the 8th World Invention Competition and Exhibition (Bangladesh National Round).
The day-long exhibition, organised by Dreams of Bangladesh, transformed the NUB campus into a vibrant platform of creativity, technological imagination, and future-oriented thinking. Participants from Dhaka and various regions of the country presented their inventions and innovative projects.
The inauguration session was chaired by NUB Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman and attended by Labiba Abdullah, Member of the Board of Trustees of NUB.
The prize-giving ceremony was graced by Chief Guest SM Jahangir Hossain, Member of Parliament for the Dhaka-18 constituency. Eminent computer scientist and former BUET professor Dr. M. Kaykobad was also present.
Among others, NUBT member Saad Al Jabir Abdullah attended the programme, highlighting NUB’s vision of becoming an innovation and startup-driven university where students will be inspired not only to earn degrees but also to develop ideas, create solutions, and build something new with global impact.
‘Bangladesh must move beyond low-cost labour perception’
Addressing the programme, Labiba Abdullah underscored the profound transformation taking place in the global knowledge economy, where artificial intelligence, innovation, and intellectual creativity are redefining the future of nations.
She observed that the emerging generation of Bangladesh possesses exceptional promise and adaptive capacity to lead in the global innovation ecosystem.
She further emphasised that Bangladesh must move beyond the traditional perception of being merely a source of low-cost labour and instead position itself as a nation driven by invention, technological excellence, and intellectual capital.
“The country’s young innovators, researchers, and creators have the potential to establish Bangladesh as a significant force on the global platform of innovation in the near future,” she said.
Her remarks reflected a broader vision for Bangladesh’s transition from a labour-driven economy to a knowledge and innovation-based society, where universities play a central role in nurturing future inventors, entrepreneurs, and technological leaders.
