The Human Rights Support Society (HRSS) has strongly condemned the brutal killing of a nine-year-old child in Palash upazila of Narsingdi on 6 May and demanded exemplary punishment for those responsible.
According to media reports, the child died after air was forcibly inserted into his anus at high speed “in the guise of mischief” at an auto-rickshaw garage. He later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
HRSS described the act as barbaric, inhumane and heinous. “Such treatment of an innocent child is not only a crime but also a deep wound against humanity and civilisation,” the organisation said in a statement.
The rights body expressed deep concern that child safety in the country has still not been ensured, adding that such incidents prove serious deficiencies exist in the child protection system and that the lack of social awareness has reached a terrible level.
According to data collected by HRSS, 519 children were victims of abuse between January and April 2026. Of them, 195 died and 324 suffered physical and mental abuse.
HRSS demanded that justice be ensured through a neutral and speedy trial and that all individuals involved be promptly arrested and given exemplary punishment.
The organisation also called for state compensation and psychological support for the victim’s family. It urged authorities to strengthen strict monitoring and awareness programmes at the local level to prevent child abuse.
HRSS further called for effective measures to ensure the safety of children in workplaces, garages and other risky locations, stating that to prevent the recurrence of such incidents, not only justice but also the development of social and institutional awareness is essential.
The organisation urged the relevant authorities to prioritise the incident and take swift and effective measures.
