A NCP-backed candidate has withdrawn his nomination from the Supreme Court Bar Association election, citing allegations of bias in the electoral process.
Advocate Mohammad Hossain Lipu, who had submitted his nomination for the post of secretary in the upcoming Supreme Court (SC) Bar Association election, formally withdrew his candidature on Sunday.
He submitted a written request to the secretary of the ad hoc committee of the Supreme Court Bar Association, which was later accepted by the authorities.
In his withdrawal letter, Lipu alleged that the current election process had been structured in favour of individuals aligned with the ruling party, describing it as one-sided and a “farce.”
He also claimed that the election sub-committee (election commission) was formed with ruling party-affiliated members, which, according to him, created a “staged and flawed” electoral environment.
Protesting the process, he announced his withdrawal from the contest for the secretary post.
