Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has apprehended a man attempting to smuggle gold bars into India. The arrest occurred Sunday night at Maheshpur border in Jhenaidah during a routine patrol.
Authorities seized eight gold bars from the detainee, valued at approximately Tk 1.63 crore in the market.
The arrested individual has been identified as Momin Uddin, son of Tetul Mondal from Goyeshpur village in Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga district.
Assistant Director Munshi Imdadur Rahman of BGB Battalion 58 confirmed to media: “Acting on intelligence, our team intercepted Momin near border pillar 69/2. The suspect has confessed to smuggling the gold to India.”
The recovered gold bars have been deposited at Chuadanga district treasury, while the detainee has been handed over to Jibannagar Police Station.
