A Dhaka court has sent Sheikh Mamun Khaled, former director general of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), to jail after five phases of remand totaling 18 days in a case.
The case was filed over an attack on BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan and the killing of party activist Mokbul Hossain.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order on Monday after Mamun Khaled was produced in court, defense lawyer Morshed Hossain Shahin said.
During the proceedings, Khaled told the court he had no involvement in politics and was engaged only in academic life, teaching at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP). He sought bail, but the court rejected the plea and ordered him into jail custody.
Court sources said Khaled was arrested on 25 March from his residence in Mirpur DOHS by Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police. He was placed on remand in five phases — five days on 26 March, six days on 31 March, three days on 6 April, three days on 9 April, and one day on 10 April — totaling 18 days.
According to case documents, on 10 December 2022, during BNP’s one‑point movement, an attack and vandalism took place at the party’s Nayapaltan office. BNP activist Mokbul was killed in police firing during the incident.
On 30 September 2024, Mahfuzur Rahman filed the case with Paltan Model Police Station against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 256 others, naming Mamun Khaled among the accused.
