Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has called for the formation of a parliamentary special committee comprising all political parties represented in the National Parliament and independent members to amend the Constitution.
He made this call during the discussion on the July National Charter (Constitutional Reform) Implementation Order under Rule 62 on an urgent matter during the first session of the National Parliament on Tuesday (March 31) night.
The home minister said, “Let us fulfill the historic commitment to repair the state structure through democratic reform of the Constitution.” He said, “With the permission of the government party leader, I am proposing today in this great National Parliament that a parliamentary special committee be formed for constitutional amendment, comprising all political parties represented in the National Parliament and independent members.”
“Let us all sit together in that committee, discuss, and through consensus, bring the people’s desired constitutional amendment bill before this great National Parliament. Let us adopt it through consensus,” he said.
He said, “We want to bring democratic amendments to the Constitution through discussion and consensus in the great National Parliament, involving both the government party and the opposition. Because we are all accountable to the vast public expectations of the people of Bangladesh.”
