The Ambassador of France to Bangladesh, Jean-Marc Chérat-Challé, paid a courtesy call on Minister of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and the Ministry of Science and Technology Fakhrul Mahbub Anam on Monday at the minister’s office of the Posts and Telecommunications Division at the Secretariat.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the telecommunications and satellite sectors, improving service quality, and ongoing activities.
Minister Fakhrul Mahbub Anam said, “The current quality of service in the satellite communication system is satisfactory. However, as the term of the existing agreement has expired, the contract needs to be renewed quickly to maintain service continuity.”
He further said, “Enhancing our own capabilities in the telecommunications sector and ensuring strategic autonomy is a priority of the government.”
French Ambassador Jean-Marc Chérat-Challé said, “The existing cooperation with Bangladesh in the telecommunications and satellite sectors is very positive. We are interested in further expanding this cooperation.” He expressed hope that the matter of contract renewal would be quickly resolved through mutual discussions.
The meeting informed that discussions regarding the renewal of the relevant satellite service contract are ongoing, and both sides expect positive progress.
During the meeting, Abdun Naser Khan, Secretary of the Posts and Telecommunications Division, and Cynthia Mela, Country Director of AFD (French Development Agency), were present.
