Deposits at Non-Banking Financial Institutions (NBFIs) climbed to Tk51,127 crore at the end of the fourth quarter of 2025, rising 6.46 per cent year on year as the sector gradually expanded lending despite slower disbursement growth.

Loans and advances reached Tk78,829 crore, up 3.62 per cent from Tk76,077 crore a year earlier, according to Bangladesh Bank data.

Fresh loan disbursements during the quarter totalled Tk6,061 crore, a decline of 4.58 per cent from Tk6,352 crore in the same period of the previous year.

Loan recoveries stood at Tk6,622 crore, down 1.39 per cent from Tk6,715.39 crore recorded in the previous quarter.

Industry remained the largest recipient of NBFI credit, accounting for 47 per cent of total disbursements, followed by consumer finance at 21 per cent, while the rest went to agriculture, fishing and forestry, construction, transport, and trade and commerce.

NBFIs’ outstanding loans to the industry sector rose 5.97 per cent year on year to Tk34,319 crore, while construction loans increased 8.76 per cent to Tk10,300 crore.

Credit to transport declined 11.5 per cent to Tk1,493 crore, consumer finance slipped 3.09 per cent to Tk10,411 crore, and loans to trade and commerce fell 1.59 per cent to Tk15,475 crore.

NBFIs’ loan recoveries were highest in the industry sector at Tk2,960 crore, an increase of 8.87 per cent compared with the previous year.

Construction recoveries also rose sharply to Tk978 crore, marking a 35.5 per cent increase.

However, recoveries declined in several other sectors.

Trade and commerce recoveries dropped 35.4 per cent to Tk1,075 crore, consumer finance fell 5 per cent to Tk1,169 crore, transport plunged 60 per cent to Tk68 crore, and agriculture, fishing and forestry declined 35.1 per cent to Tk48 crore.

Loans backed by machinery or fixed assets rose 14.95 per cent to Tk3,534 crore, while financial obligation-based lending increased 35.43 per cent to Tk18,905 crore.

In contrast, loans secured by shares and securities fell 22.3 per cent to Tk1,105 crore and commodity-backed loans declined 6.67 per cent to Tk2,048 crore.

Loans guaranteed only by institutions dropped 5.21 per cent to Tk6,481 crore.

Real estate loans remained the largest category for NBFIs at Tk30,753 crore, though the figure edged down 1.51 per cent from the previous year.
