A group of leaders and activists of the Awami League raised the national and party flags in front of the party’s district office in Magura city on Thursday afternoon, despite a ban on party activities
The incident took place around 4pm in the city’s Jamrultola area. According to reports, 10 to 12 leaders and activists, led by Enamul Haque Hirok, vice-president of the District Awami League, gathered on the main road below the fire-damaged third-floor office.
The group raised the flags and offered a prayer (doa) before quickly departing from the scene.
Other attendees included Sonia Sultana, former female vice-chairman of Sadar Upazila Parishad and a leader of the District Jubo Mohila League, and Mir Rezaul Islam, alongside activists from the Sechchasebak League and Krishak League.
Commenting on the incident, Magura Superintendent of Police Md Habibur Rahman said that a few individuals suddenly gathered below the Jamrultola Awami League office, raised flags, offered prayers, and fled.
“The party’s activities are officially suspended by the government. We are investigating the matter and will take necessary action,” the SP added.
