Walton has started manufacturing the European ACC brand’s Kappa Compressor in Bangladesh, reinforcing its position as the country’s first and only compressor manufacturer and marking a significant step in the local hi-tech industrial journey.
In a press release, the company said production of the ACC Kappa Compressor, known for compact design, high efficiency, durability and environmental sustainability, will meet rising domestic demand for energy-efficient refrigerators and support export expansion to developed markets, including Europe.
The most advanced ACC Kappa Compressor platform was inaugurated on Saturday at Walton Headquarters in Chandra, Gazipur, by Walton Hi-Tech Industries Director S M Nurul Alam Rezvi and Managing Director (MD) S M Mahbubul Alam.
Expressing pride in the milestone, the MD said the Walton Research and Innovation Center has achieved a major breakthrough by starting production of the globally renowned ACC Kappa Compressor, combining compact design, high efficiency, durability and eco-friendly performance.
He said the launch goes beyond a new product rollout, reflecting Walton’s growing technological capability, self-reliance and ambition to achieve global excellence in compressor engineering, while also proving that Bangladesh can lead in world-class industrial and engineering innovation.
Describing compressors as one of the most promising segments of Bangladesh’s hi-tech sector, he said the global compressor market is vast and Walton has set a target to emerge as one of the leading compressor exporters.
Walton is already exporting compressors to Europe, the Middle East and South Asia, he said, adding that buyers from different parts of the world have shown strong interest since the start of ACC Kappa Compressor manufacturing.
He said the new compressor has added another milestone to Walton’s export drive and expressed confidence that the company’s goal of exporting compressors, refrigerators, air conditioners, televisions and other products to more than 100 countries would be achieved soon.
Walton Compressor Chief Business Officer S M Almas Rahman said the Kappa Compressor offers a rare combination of compact size, high efficiency, durability and environmental sustainability, allowing better use of internal refrigerator space while delivering a wide cooling capacity range.
He said the compressor meets five-star energy efficiency standards with a coefficient of performance above 2.15 W/W and supports a wide operating voltage range of 85 volts to 300 volts, enabling stable operation without additional stabilisers, particularly in rural and voltage-fluctuation-prone areas.
He added that the compressor’s ultra-low noise level ensures quiet operation, enhancing user comfort.
With Walton setting up the country’s first and only compressor manufacturing industry, Bangladesh has emerged as the eighth largest compressor-producing country in Asia and the 15th largest globally, the company said.
Walton added that its compressor factory maintains an international-standard quality control laboratory, state-of-the-art equipment and a zero-tolerance quality policy at every production stage, enabling exports to Europe within two years of starting commercial production in 2017.
The company also said the acquisition of the historic Italian brand ACC, including its machinery, intellectual property and technical rights, has further strengthened Walton’s technological base and export competitiveness.
