Biman Bangladesh Airlines has officially launched its direct flight service on the Dhaka-Karachi-Dhaka route, with the inaugural flight departing on 29 January.
The first flight, BG-341, took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8pm for Karachi, carrying 150 passengers.
A brief ceremony was held at the airport to mark the launch, attended by Civil Aviation and Tourism Adviser and Biman board chairman Sheikh Bashiruddin.
Among others present were Imran Haider, Ambassador of Pakistan to Bangladesh, and Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh Chairman Air Vice Marshal Md Mostafa Mahmud Siddiq.
The event was presided over by Biman Managing Director and CEO Dr Md Shafiqur Rahman, alongside officials from the ministry, the airline and the aviation authority.
The inaugural flight reached Karachi at 11pm local time on 29 January. The return flight, BG-342, was scheduled to depart Karachi at 12:01am on 30 January and arrive in Dhaka at 4:20am local time the same day.
According to the winter schedule, Biman will operate flights on this route every Thursday and Saturday. Flights are set to depart Dhaka at 8pm, arriving in Karachi at 11pm local time. Return flights will leave Karachi at 12:01am and land in Dhaka at 4:20am local time.
The re-establishment of this route marks the return of direct communication between Bangladesh and Pakistan.
It is expected to play a pivotal role in expanding trade and business, promoting education, and fostering cultural ties between the two countries
