Police recovered the body of an unidentified young man from a drum floating in a canal in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj, on Sunday morning.
The body had begun to decompose, Siddhirganj police confirmed.
Officers from Siddhirganj Police retrieved the drum around 8am from the canal bank near Jalkuri Road, beside Hridoymoni Creative School in the Godnail Noapara area.
Locals alerted authorities after spotting a drum floating along the roadside canal.
Police subsequently recovered the drum and found the body of a man, estimated to be around 32 years old, inside.
Initial investigations suggest that the man may have been murdered and his body concealed in the drum before being dumped in the water.
His identity and exact cause of death have yet to be determined.
Siddhirganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Barik confirmed the recovery and said the body had been sent to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Authorities have launched an investigation to identify the deceased and unravel the circumstances surrounding his death.
