Heavy rain has flooded parts of Bengaluru, known as India’s Silicon Valley, disrupting daily life and causing major traffic jams.
On Monday, the city received 100mm (4 inches) of rain — the highest since 2011. More rain is expected on Tuesday due to a cyclone forming over the Andaman Sea.
Three people, including a 12-year-old boy, died in rain-related incidents. A 35-year-old woman was killed when a wall collapsed at a tech company in one of the city’s IT zones.
Many roads are under water, and several companies have asked employees to work from home. Videos show people walking through knee-deep water and cars stuck on flooded streets. Water has also entered homes in some areas.
The city has marked 210 flood-prone spots and is working to fix the situation.
