Daffodil International University (DIU) has strongly condemned the torching of two buses used for student transport by unidentified attackers in the early hours of 8 November 2025.
The incident took place around 2:30am in the Mirpur area of the capital. Fire service personnel rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control, but both buses were extensively damaged, read a press release.
The university administration said it was deeply shocked and concerned over the attack.
DIU stated that in the university’s history, no such violent or criminal acts involving arson on student transport buses have ever occurred.
The institution described the incident as an attack not only on university property but also on the overall education environment and national assets.
The university also pointed out that the fire broke out soon after a recent dispute between students of another university, raising serious concerns among students and the public.
Questions have emerged regarding the motives behind the attack and whether any group is attempting to trigger fresh tensions, the statement said.
DIU has called for an immediate and impartial investigation, urging law enforcement agencies to identify the perpetrators and uncover their motives.
The bus owners have already initiated the process of filing a General Diary or a regular case with the local police station in Mirpur.
The university expects law enforcement to swiftly unveil the facts behind the crime and to take effective steps to prevent future attacks on educational institutions and assets.
