A man was stabbed to death allegedly by a group of criminals in Halishahar area of Chattogram on Friday night.
Deceased Md Akbar, 35, worked at a local iron depot.
Police have detained one suspect, Arman, in connection with the incident, Additional Deputy Commissioner (West) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Sheikh Sadi told TIMES of Bangladesh.
The incident took place around 9pm in the Shapla Residential Area at Halishahar, the official said.
According to Akbar’s family, a group of four to five assailants riding motorcycles attacked him with a knife and fled the scene.
They said that locals rescued critically injured Akbar and took him to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where doctors declared him dead.
Nurul Alam Ashiq, in-charge of the CMCH police outpost, said, “Akbar was brought to the hospital with stab wounds. The doctor pronounced him dead. The body has been sent to the morgue for autopsy.”
