In a heart-wrenching tragedy, nine members of a family, including Abdur Razzak, will be laid to rest together in the same row at Mongla Graveyard following their untimely deaths in a tragic road accident in Rampal, Bagerhat.
The graves were prepared at the request of the family, with nine adjacent plots dug for the victims at Mongla Graveyard.
The caretaker of the cemetery, Mujibur Fakir, who has been overseeing the site for 17 years, expressed that this is the first time he has ever prepared graves for so many members of a single family. He described the incident as deeply sorrowful and devastating.
The fatal accident occurred on Thursday afternoon at Beli Bridge, located on the Khulna-Mongla Highway, when a Navy staff bus collided head-on with a passenger microbus. Fourteen people died in the crash, including the groom and several members of his family.

Following the family’s request, the bodies of the deceased -comprising the groom, his father, siblings, wife, nieces, and nephews-were handed over without autopsies, and were transported from Khulna Medical College Hospital and Rampal Health Complex on Thursday night.
Of the 14 victims, nine were from the same family. The bodies of the deceased arrived early Friday morning at Shehalabuniya in Mongla, Bagerhat. Meanwhile, the bride, her sister, grandmother, and maternal grandmother were taken to Koyra, Khulna, where their burial took place before the Friday Jumma prayers.
According to police and family sources, the groom, Ahadur Rahman Shabbir, who was the youngest son of Abdur Razzak, married Marjia Akter Mitu from the village of Naksha in Koyra, Khulna, on Wednesday night.
After the wedding, the groom’s family departed for Mongla around 12:15pm on Thursday. The microbus, carrying 14 people, collided head-on with a Navy staff bus near bailey bridge in Rampal. All passengers in the microbus, including the driver, were killed. One person was injured and hospitalised at Khulna Medical College.
The victims included the groom, Ahadur Rahman; his father, Abdur Razzak; his brother, Abdullah Sani; his sister, Umme Sumaiya Aishi; his nephew, Samiul Islam Fahim; his brother Ashraful Alam’s wife, Farhana Siddika Putul; their children, Alif, Arfa, and Iram; as well as the bride, Marjia Akter Mitu; her sister, Lamia Akter; their grandmother, Rashida Begum; and their maternal grandmother, Anwara Begum. The microbus driver, Naeem, from Singerbunia village in Rampal, also died in the crash.
The groom, Ahadur Rahman, ran a mobile phone shop in Mongla, while the bride, Marjia, was a first-year student at Naksha Alim Madrasa in Koyra.
Sajjad Sardar, younger brother of Abdur Razzak, said, “This accident has wiped out the entire family.” He added, “We have brought bier from nine nearby mosques. Their funeral prayers will be held on the Upazila Parishad premises after Jumma prayers, and they will be buried at the municipal cemetery.”
Meanwhile, the burial of the bride, her sister, grandmother, and maternal grandmother was completed before the Friday prayers in Koyra.
