8-year-old boy found dead in Gandaria

An eight-year-old boy named was found dead under unusual circumstances at a residence in Swamibag area of Gandaria, Dhaka. Family members claim that the boy, Ayush Rudra Das, committed suicide by hanging.

The incident occurred at around 3pm on Saturday.

At the hospital, the deceased’s father, Indrajit Das, stated that their permanent address is in Haidarabad village, Muradnagar upazila, Cumilla, but the family lives in a rented flat on the third floor of a four-story building in Swamibag currently. Ayush was a first-grade student at a local kindergarten and was the younger of two siblings.

Indrajit further shared that Ayush’s mother, Uma Rani Das, had asked him to take a bath in the afternoon. Ayush had entered the bathroom with a towel and locked the door. When he hadn’t come out for an unusually long time, family members began calling out to him. Getting no response, they broke open the door and found him hanging from a clothes hanger with the towel wrapped around his neck.

They immediately brought him down and rushed him first to local Salauddin Hospital. When his condition showed no improvement, he was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The family could not explain why the eight-year-old would have taken such a step.

Dhaka Medical College Police Camp In-Charge (Inspector) Md Faruk confirmed the death, citing medical reports.
