Six people were killed in separate road accidents in three districts of the country within seven hours. These accidents occurred on Thursday night and early Friday.
Among the victims, three died in a bus-truck collision in Mirsharai, Chittagong, one died in a bus-truck crash in Munshiganj, and two died in a bus overturn in Cumilla.
More than 50 people were injured in these accidents.
Chittagong:
In Mirsarai, Chittagong, a passenger bus of St Martin Travels collided with a parked truck on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, killing three people.
At least 10 others were injured. The accident took place at around 2am on Friday near the Dumghat Forest Office area of Baraiyarhat Municipality.
One of the deceased has been identified as Nafiz Ahmed Ayan (25), a member of the Navy, who was returning to his workplace after a holiday. His home was in Mosjidia village, Mirsharai.
Baraiyarhat Fire Service Station Officer Zainal Abedin Titas confirmed that three bodies were recovered and handed over to the police.
Munshiganj:
In Munshiganj, a passenger bus collided with a cargo truck on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway due to dense fog, resulting in one death and at least 20 injuries.
Ten seriously injured people were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The accident occurred at around 5 AM on Friday near Nimtala Railway Station in Sirajdikhan upazila.
A bus from Purbasha Paribahan, traveling from Chuadanga to Dhaka, hit the rear of a stationary truck, crushing the front part of the bus.
Upon receiving the news, fire services from Shrinagar and Sirajdikhan rescued the injured and sent them to Shrinagar Upazila Health Complex, with critically injured individuals later transferred to Dhaka.
The accident caused a long traffic jam on the Dhaka-bound lane of the expressway. Shrinagar Fire Service Station Officer Dewan Azad Hossain said that the identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed.
Cumilla:
In Cumilla, two people were killed and at least 12 others were injured when a bus lost control and overturned, colliding with a microbus.
The accident occurred at around 10:30 PM on Thursday in Turanipara, near the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway.
According to the police, a Star Line bus traveling from Feni hit the road divider while making a U-turn, overturned, and fell into the opposite lane, where it collided with an oncoming microbus.
Elliotganj Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ruhul Amin confirmed that the bodies were recovered and taken to the station, while the injured were admitted to various district hospitals. Efforts are underway to identify the deceased.
