Police have arrested 43 leaders and activists of the Awami League and its associate organisations in raids across different areas of Dhaka. The activities of this party, and its associate organisations, are banned.
Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed the matter on Thursday. Arrested individuals are allegedly involved in vandalism and flash processions. The police did not disclose their identities till the filing of this report.
The Awami League had announced a “Dhaka Lockdown” programme for Thursday, centering on the announcement of the verdict date in the crimes against humanity case against Sheikh Hasina.
Incidents of crude bomb blasts and arson have been occurring in Dhaka and other parts of the country for the past few days. Following these developments, law enforcement agencies maintained a vigilant stance across Dhaka.
