At the start of the year, 200 underprivileged students from Jashore received new educational supplies and scholarships, thanks to the initiative of the Asad Smriti Institute.
On Friday morning, the distribution ceremony took place on Bejpara Noldanga Road, with the local social organisation spearheading the effort.
This initiative has been ongoing for the past two years as part of the institute’s education programme.
Among the recipients was Pallabi Pal, a seventh-grade student, who was overjoyed to receive two new school uniforms, a bag, and a cash scholarship of Tk3,000 for school admission.
She arrived at the event holding her mother’s hand. Her mother, Joya Pal, shared, “In our family, it’s difficult to cover the costs of my child’s education. My husband drives a rickshaw, and his earnings barely cover our household expenses. This year, thanks to the Asad Smriti Institute, my daughter will be going to school with a new uniform and bag. She is very happy, as she won’t have to wear her old clothes anymore.” Joya expressed her gratitude to the organisers for their support.
Also among the recipients was first-grade student Ayesha Siddiquee, who came to the event with her mother.
Delighted with her new school bag and dress, Ayesha couldn’t wait to wear her new uniform. Her mother, Sharmin Begum, explained, “My husband works at a parts shop. We are a family of four, and managing the household expenses and supporting the children’s education was becoming difficult. But now, with the Asad Smriti Institute’s support, I feel much more relieved.”
The event’s chief guest, Anindya Islam Amit, the Acting Organisational Secretary of BNP’s Khulna Division, commended the efforts of the Asad Smriti Institute. “What the Asad Smriti Institute is doing today should have been the responsibility of the government, but they have failed in that regard,” he said.
In his greeting address, Ayaz Uddin Ripon, General Secretary of the Asad Smriti Institute, stated, “We launched this programme last year, and every month we provide students with Tk1,000, along with Tk3,000 for admission at the start of the year.
“Additionally, we distribute two sets of school uniforms, bags, and various educational materials. The institute also offers vocational education, Quran studies, and free medical services.”
