Two people have died of dengue in the last 24 hours, while 1,097 new patients have been hospitalised across the country.
According to the daily report released by Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), of the newly hospitalised patients, 191 were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka.
This includes 82 cases in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) area and 109 cases in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) area.
Outside the capital, the highest number of new admissions was recorded in Dhaka Division (excluding city corporations) with 258 patients, closely followed by Khulna Division with 243 cases.
The DGHS report further detailed that 123 new patients were hospitalised in Barisal Division, 116 in Chittagong Division, 81 in Mymensingh Division, 76 in Rajshahi Division, six in Rangpur Division, and three in Sylhet Division in the last 24 hours.
According to DGHS statistics, a total of 34,683 dengue cases have been recorded nationwide from 1 January to 30 August of this year. Demographically, 62 per cent of the infected patients are male, while 38 per cent are female.
The country has registered a total of 92 dengue-related deaths during this period. August has witnessed the highest surge in infections this year, accounting for 19,373 of the total cases. The statistics also show that young adults aged between 16 and 30 years represent the largest portion of the infected individuals.
Currently, 2,402 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at hospitals nationwide. Among them, 425 are hospitalised in Dhaka, while 1,977 are receiving care in divisions outside the capital. A total of 32,189 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals across the country so far.
