Police have arrested two activists of the Awami League, whose activities are currently banned, during a raid on Sunday night.

Pabna Sadar Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (Operations) Sanjay Saha confirmed the arrests.

The detainees are Alamin Malitha, 38, vice-president of the district unit of Swechchhasebak League, an affiliated body of the AL; and Raju Ahmed, 40, a member of the Ward-1 unit of AL.

OC Saha said several activists and leaders of the Pabna district unit of AL hoisted national and party flags, chanted “Joy Bangla” slogans, and staged a protest march at the local party office to mark Shaheed Dibash (21 February).

He added that the arrests were made after videos of the activities went viral on social media.

The OC further said, “There is a case against the two regarding the murder of a student during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. They have been shown arrested in that case and will be produced in court on 23 February 2026, Monday afternoon.”

Additional police personnel have been deployed to prevent any untoward incidents, he added.
