The government has decided to provide rehabilitation, retrospective promotions, and outstanding financial benefits to 150 retired, removed, released, and dismissed officers of the Bangladesh Army, Navy, and Air Force who were victims of discrimination, injustice, and political vengeance during the Awami League regime.
The Ministry of Defence issued a notification in this regard on Wednesday. Signed by Secretary Md Ashraf Uddin, the notification has been ordered to take effect immediately.
According to the notification, a committee was recently formed by the Ministry of Defence, along with boards constituted by the respective service headquarters, to review applications from officers who faced discrimination and victimization between 2009 and 4 August 2024.
Subsequently, another high-level committee, formed on 3 May, conducted a detailed examination of these proposals and recommendations. This government order has been issued with the approval of the appropriate authorities based on that committee’s final recommendations.
A total of 150 officers are covered under this order, including 115 from the Bangladesh Army, 21 from the Bangladesh Navy, and 14 from the Bangladesh Air Force.
Based on their eligibility, these officers have been granted normal retirement, retrospective promotion followed by normal retirement, or premature (compulsory) retirement or promotion.
They will also receive arrears of pay and allowances, financial benefits, and, where applicable, special financial incentives in accordance with the rules. The order, issued in the public interest, will be implemented by the Armed Forces Division.
Simultaneously, a previous notification regarding this matter issued by the Ministry of Defence on 5 February 2026 has been cancelled.
Earlier, the interim government granted retrospective promotions to 141 officers who had been dismissed, discharged, or sent into compulsory, premature, or voluntary retirement during the Awami League’s tenure.
Following the assumption of office by the interim government, affected officers applied for the restoration of their jobs, leading to the formation of a high-level committee.
This committee was led by Lieutenant General (retd) Abdul Hafiz, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Defence and National Solidarity.
The committee submitted its recommendations to the government after reviewing applications from officers who alleged systematic discrimination and professional loss between 2009 and 4 August 2024.
The committee’s recommendations noted that these steps were taken to restore the dignity and entitled benefits of officers who were victims of political vengeance, discrimination, and injustice under the previous government.
