Eleven of 16 candidates contesting in Narail’s two constituencies lost their deposits in the 13th National Election as they failed to secure one-eighth of the total votes cast, as required by Election Commission rules.
The information was confirmed after reviewing the official results sheet signed by District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Abdul Salam.
In Narail-1, eight candidates contested the polls. Among those who forfeited their deposits were Islami Andolan nominee Abdul Aziz, who secured 6,352 votes, and Jatiya Party nominee Md Milton Molla, who received 461 votes.
Independent candidate BM Nagib Hossain, contesting with the jug symbol, obtained 1,113 votes, while independent candidate SM Sajjad Hossain, with the football symbol, received 898 votes.
Independent candidate Md Ujjal Molla, with the deer symbol, secured 230 votes, and independent candidate Sukesh Saha Ananda, with the horse symbol, polled 864 votes.
In the constituency, paddy sheaf candidate Biswas Jahangir Alam was unofficially declared elected with 99,975 votes.
His nearest rival, 11-party alliance nominee Obaidullah Kaysar, contesting with the scale symbol, secured 75,225 votes.
In Narail-2, eight candidates were in the race.
11-party alliance Jamaat-e-Islami nominee Ataur Rahman Bachchu, contesting with the scale symbol, was unofficially elected with 118,142 votes.
His closest competitor, independent candidate Md Monirul Islam with the jug symbol, received 78,457 votes, while paddy sheaf candidate Fariduzzaman Farhad secured 45,463 votes.
Among others, Jatiya Party nominee Fayekuzzaman Firoz, contesting with the plough symbol, obtained 688 votes.
Islami Andolan nominee Md Tajul Islam, with the hand fan symbol, received 4,729 votes, while Gono Odhikar Parishad nominee Md Nur Islam, contesting with the truck symbol, secured 339 votes.
Bangladesh Cultural Liberation Alliance nominee Md Shoaib Ali, with the stick symbol, polled 220 votes, and independent candidate Mosammat Farida Yasmin, with the boat symbol, received 219 votes.
