A 26-year-old man was beaten to death by a mob in Lalbagh, Dhaka, in the early hours of Sunday.
The victim was identified as Taufiqul Islam Babu, son of Yunus Khan of the same area. Lalbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mostafa Kamal Khan said local residents caught and assaulted him in the Shahidnagar Lohar Bridge area around midnight.
The incident was later reported to the Azimpur Army Camp. Army personnel rescued the injured man and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared
him dead at about 3:30am.
Police said the deceased had eight to ten cases against him, including drug-related charges, and was locally known as ‘Killer Babu’ and ‘Tera Babu.’
The OC added that an investigation is underway.
