Bangladesh’s AFC Asian Cup qualifying campaign ended in disappointment, with the red-and-green team failing to advance despite two matches still remaining. Leicester City midfielder Hamza Dewan Chowdhury, who made his national debut in March this year against India, has played five matches for Bangladesh, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
Hamza found the net for the first time against Bhutan and added his second goal at home against Hong Kong during the qualifiers. However, Bangladesh lost one match 4–3 and drew another 1–1 against Hong Kong, leaving their campaign short of expectations.
After returning to England, Hamza posted on his verified Facebook page: “Didn’t work out as we’d hoped and worked so hard for! But as always so proud to represent Bangladesh and the team! So many positives to take from this break. See you all in November InshaAllah.”
The midfielder highlighted that while the outcomes were disappointing, representing Bangladesh remained a source of pride and motivation. Hamza is set to return to Dhaka in November for upcoming matches, including the 18 October clash against India at the National Stadium.
Under coach Javier Cabrera, Bangladesh ended the qualifiers with just two points from four matches. Despite the results, Hamza emphasised the lessons learned and the positives to carry forward into the next international window.
