Walkie-talkie leak: CMP constable Ami put on remand

A Chattogram court on Tuesday has placed police constable Ami Das on three-day remand after his arrest on charges of leaking Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasib Aziz’s confidential message transmitted via walkie-talkie.

Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate SM Alauddin issued the remand order after a hearing on the issue.

The investigating officer of the case appealed for seven-day remand, but the court granted three days.

Ami Das, son of Rajib Das of Patiya in Chattogram, was serving in CMP telecom unit. He was currently on deputation at Khulshi Police Station in Chattogram.

On Sunday night, he was arrested in Khulshi area. Subsequently, a case was filed against him under the Official Secrets Act.

Mahmuda Begum, additional deputy commissioner (Media) of CMP, stated that leaking a confidential message in violation of the Official Secrets Act is a serious offense.
