Vietnam has officially approved the import of potatoes from Bangladesh, marking a significant boost for Bangladeshi agricultural exports.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of Vietnam granted the approval on Friday, following a review of registration documents submitted by Bangladesh.
Under Vietnamese regulations, countries seeking to export potatoes must first submit detailed documentation, which is then verified by the ministry before approval is granted.
Bangladesh initiated the registration process in May 2025, coordinated by the Embassy of Bangladesh in Hanoi along with the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Food.
With the process now complete, Bangladeshi exporters are eligible to begin shipments to Vietnam starting 27 March.
Ambassador Md Lutfor Rahman welcomed the development, noting that it will provide new opportunities for potato exporters and generate benefits for local farmers.
He highlighted Vietnam’s strong demand for potatoes and said that the export avenue could help reduce the trade imbalance between the two nations.
The Ambassador also expressed optimism that this milestone could pave the way for the export of other plant-based products, such as sesame, and confirmed that the Embassy will continue efforts to broaden market access for Bangladeshi agricultural goods in Vietnam.
