The Cabinet has approved proposals to convert two ordinances related to the supplementary budget for FY 2024-25 and the main budget for FY 2025-26 into law.
The decision came at the Cabinet’s third meeting held at the Secretariat on Tuesday, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani said after the meeting.
The Cabinet approved the enactment of the Specification (Supplementary) Ordinance, 2025 relating to the FY 2024-25 supplementary budget.
Under Article 91 of the Constitution, a supplementary financial statement must be placed before Parliament if approved expenditure in a fiscal year proves insufficient or exceeds the allocated amount.
However, the statement could not be presented as Parliament had been dissolved. Under Article 93, the interim government issued the ordinance, which is now set to be converted into law following Cabinet approval.
The Cabinet also approved the enactment of the Specification Ordinance, 2025 relating to the FY 2025-26 main budget.
As per Article 87 of the Constitution, the annual financial statement of revenue and expenditure is required to be placed before Parliament, but this was not possible in the absence of the House.
The ordinance was issued under Article 93 and is now being converted into law.
