Two people were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a motorcycle in Khagrachhari on Wednesday night.
The accident occurred in front of Heritage Park near the Chengi Bridge in the hill district.
The deceased were identified as Sizon Chakma, son of Khulram Chakma of Tarabannya area under Panchhari’s Pujgang, and Riju Chakma of Noonchhari.
Eyewitness Jamal Uddin said the motorcycle, heading towards Khagrachhari town, collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction in front of Heritage Park, leaving the rider and pillion passenger critically injured. Locals rushed them to Khagrachhari Modern District Hospital, where doctors declared one dead upon arrival.
The other victim, referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for better treatment, succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Dr Manjurul Haque of Khagrachhari District Hospital said one of the victims died on the spot.
Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Abdul Baten Mridha said the bodies would be handed over to their families upon completion of legal formalities.
