BNP has expelled Abdur Rauf, president of the airport organisational ward BNP, and Rana Hossain Rubel, its general secretary, from all party positions following allegations of involvement in activities contrary to party policy and discipline.
Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP Convener Aminul Haque and Member Secretary Mostafa Zaman approved the decision Monday.
Earlier, Chhatra Dal expelled Md Ripon Hossain, president of the airport police station unit, and Al Amin Hossain Shanto, its general secretary, over allegations of involvement in the robbery of gold jewellery sent by an expatriate.
The organisation directed leaders and members at all levels to sever all organisational communications and relations with them.
According to the case statement, Malaysian expatriate Kawsar Hossain sent 200 grams of gold jewellery through an acquaintance for his sister’s wedding on 28 August. His younger brother Md Sumon and friend Rohan collected the jewellery at the airport.
As they reached the Dhaka–Mymensingh highway, they were intercepted by Chhatra Dal leaders Ripon and Al Amin, along with BNP leaders Rauf and Rubel. The suspects allegedly attacked and threatened the victims before fleeing with the jewellery.
On 29 August, Sumon filed a robbery case at the Airport Police Station. Police later raided Sector 1 of the airport area, arresting Shanto and Rauf. Officers recovered 100 grams of the stolen gold jewellery from their possession.
The arrestees were produced before court and placed on one‑day remand. After remand, they were presented at Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court, where the investigation officer, Sub‑inspector Sabbir Hossain, sought their detention in jail custody.
