Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi has said that people‑to‑people ties, rooted in shared aspirations and goodwill, remain the “true beating heart” of the friendship between India and Bangladesh.
He made the remarks on Saturday as the Indian High Commission in Dhaka marked India’s 80th Independence Day with members of the Indian community and friends of India in Bangladesh, reports ANI.
Trivedi hoisted the Tricolour at the ceremony, followed by the national anthem and Vande Mataram.
Addressing the gathering, he said India was celebrating not only its freedom but also the strength of its democratic traditions and its growth story.
Highlighting India’s development momentum, he said the country was advancing on the strength of innovation, resilience and the collective aspirations of its citizens.
Trivedi also urged members of the Indian community in Bangladesh to remain part of India’s continuing journey.
He said, “Our nation is moving towards unprecedented momentum driven by innovation, resilience, and the collective aspirations of our citizens. As members of the vibrant Indian community here, as an integral part of this extraordinary journey.”
“We recognise that it is the people-to-people connectivity, rooted in shared aspiration and mutual goodwill, that remains the true beating heart of this enduring friendship,” the Indian high commissioner said.
Reflecting on bilateral ties, Trivedi noted that the freedom struggles of India and Bangladesh were “deeply intertwined” and that relations continue to flourish on the foundation of shared history, mutual respect and partnership.
He said cooperation was expanding across trade, connectivity, security and healthcare.
As part of Independence Day tradition, Trivedi read excerpts from Indian President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the nation.
Quoting the president, he said 15 August 1947, marked not only liberation from colonial rule but also the empowerment of citizens to shape the destiny of independent India.
He highlighted her emphasis on people’s participation in the Constitution and the functioning of democracy.
