A court in Chattogram has sentenced five people, including three brothers, to death in a case filed over the murder Abdu Shukkur 14 years ago.
The Chattogram Additional District and Sessions Judge Court -4 Judge Rozina Khan passed the verdict on Monday in presence of two convicts.
The court also and acquitted three accused as the charges against them were not proven.
The death row convicts – Ahamd Mia, 49, Md Elias, 54, Nurul Absar, 36, sons of Khairuzzaman of Paschim Sinhara area of Anwara; Md Rafiq, 46, son of Meheruzzaman of the same area; and Md Solayman. The acquitted accused are Abdul Quddus, Md. Anwar and Md. Enam.
Court bench assistant Hafez Ahmed said that the court sentenced five people, including three brothers, to death and fined them Tk 50,000 each for the murder of Abdu Shukkur of Anwara police station about 14 years ago, based on the testimony of 10 witnesses.
Md Elias and Nurul Absar were present in the court when the verdict was announced. Later, they were sent to jail on the basis of a warrant of arrest.
The court has issued a warrant of arrest against the absconding Ahamad Mia, Md Rafiq and Md. Solaiman.
