The Cabinet Division on Sunday announced the formation of a high-level taskforce to cut regulatory red tape and simplify business procedures, bringing key ministries, regulators, infrastructure agencies and business groups under one forum to drive reforms.
A gazette notification on 9 August 2026 was published creating the National Taskforce on Deregulation and Business Facilitation, chaired by the finance and planning minister.
The taskforce will approve and guide a roadmap to reform laws, rules and policies on deregulation and business facilitation, covering trade, business, investment, finance, taxation, customs, transport, logistics, ports and services.
It will also guide the introduction of a single-window system, service-level agreements, deemed or automatic approvals and online tracking, with the aim of making government approvals and services more standardised and time-bound.
The body will take decisions on policy barriers and inter-ministerial complications and identify areas for reform across industry, business, investment, law and policy.
The government also plans to establish an Invest Bangladesh Authority and a dedicated website with a grievance-redress mechanism through which businesses can report operational problems and seek resolution.
The environment, industry and commerce, and law ministers, along with government advisers for finance and planning, and posts, telecommunications and information technology and science and technology, will serve as members.
Other members include the executive chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority, the chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission, the registrar of the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms and secretaries from the Cabinet Division, commerce or industry and finance, public security, environment, power, energy, bridges and shipping.
The private sector will be represented by the presidents of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Foreign Investors’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association and Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association.
The taskforce can co-opt additional members when necessary and must meet at least twice a year. The Cabinet Division will provide secretarial support.
The order takes immediate effect. Businesses could see lower administrative costs and faster approvals if the proposed single-window, automatic-approval and online-tracking systems are implemented across agencies.
The practical impact will depend on whether the taskforce’s decisions lead to changes in existing procedures, approval timelines and regulations.
