After delivering two successful Eid releases in consecutive years with Utsab in 2025 and Bonolota Express this year, director Tanim Noor has revealed that audiences may have to wait up to two years for his next film.
The success of his recent films has naturally raised expectations for his next project.
However, Tanim said he is in no rush to make another film and will only return to directing when he finds a story that truly appeals to him.
Tanim had previously said that he planned to make at least one film every year, and possibly two if circumstances allowed.
He now says the main reason for the potential break is that he has not yet found a story he wants to pursue.
“I want to make films with planning and by taking enough time. That is why I need a good story. Audiences have developed an interest in my films, and I want to maintain that. Unless I find a story and plan that I am satisfied with, I will not work,” Tanim said.
He added, “As of August, I have not been able to select a story I like. It is no longer possible to make a film now and release it during Eid next year. It may even be that none of my films will be released over the next two years.”
While taking a break from directing, Tanim is exploring a new role as a producer.
He has joined Nuhash Humayun’s upcoming film Moving Bangladesh as a producer.
“I had been thinking about producing for some time. It feels good to support young filmmakers through this. Nuhash is doing good work now. I found his screenplay extraordinary after reading it, so I decided to join the project as a producer,” he said.
The project also has several international producers attached to it.
Tanim said he has been in discussions with several other young filmmakers and plans to become involved only in projects that he finds promising.
Alongside producing, he is also developing a large-scale screenplay that would require an investment of several crore taka.
“I have a story in mind that requires a big budget. I do not know how far I will be able to take it because it needs a lot of money. It is difficult to find an investor willing to make such a large investment,” he said.
According to Tanim, the film would require a large ensemble cast of established Bangladeshi actors, along with numerous characters and an expansive setting.
If he secures the right producer and financing, Tanim hopes to make the film in 2028 or later.
