Transport owners and workers in Sylhet have called off their ongoing indefinite strike on Tuesday afternoon after getting assurances from the local administration.
The strike was enforced to press home their six-point demands entered its second day on Tuesday, bringing long-distance and intra-district bus services to a complete halt.
Commuters across the region faced mounting difficulties as confusion and division gripped the local transport sector.
Moynul Islam, president of the Sylhet District Road Transport Workers’ Union, declared the decision around 1:15 pm.
He said they called off strike considering the public’s suffering and after getting an invitation from Divisional Commissioner’s office for meeting later in the day.
He said that the administration contracted them and acknowledged their demands.
A meeting has been called in the afternoon to discuss the issues, he added.
