German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is slated to hold a meeting on Sunday on whether they would be travelling to the United States for a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Germany’s Bild daily reported.
The governments of UK, Germany, and France intend to coordinate their actions and jointly decide their “next steps as part of the discussion on peace in Ukraine,” after the summit between Trump and Putin secured no deal.
US President Trump offered Zelenskyy to invite European politicians to the United States, however, there were no official invitations extended as of yet, says TASS.
The three leaders earlier announced that the members of the “coalition of the willing” will hold a conversation soon without disclosing the date, will get together for an online conversation at 3pm local time (1pm GMT) on Sunday.
On Saturday, Starmer praised Trump for having brought an end to the war in Ukraine “closer than ever before”, however, he warned that the “path to peace” could not be decided without Zelenskyy.
Trump and Zelenskyy are due to have a meeting in the White House on August 18. Trump said that if talks with Zelenskyy are a success, another meeting with Putin will be scheduled.
