Prison authorities have arranged special meals for all inmates and convicts across jails in the country to mark the occasion of Eid ul-Adha.
According to a press release issued on Wednesday, the initiative is designed to maintain a festive atmosphere reflecting the glory of sacrifice within the prison perimeters. Sources within the prison department confirmed that the day’s celebrations will begin with a breakfast of payesh or semai (vermicelli) served with muri (puffed rice).
The highlight of the day will be a lavish lunch menu featuring fragrant polao, sacrificial beef or mutton, chicken roast, sweets, eggs, cold drinks, and betel leaf with nut (paan-supari). For the evening meal, inmates will be served a standard menu of plain rice, fish, and alu dum (potato curry).
In addition to the improved diet, the press release noted that each prison will organise special entertainment programmes according to their respective capacities to provide mental recreation for the inmates.
Furthermore, the authorities have implemented special arrangements to ensure that the process of meeting family members and visitors remains smooth and hassle-free for the prisoners during this significant religious festival.
