Despite its title, the upcoming movie ‘Pori Moni’ is not about the popular Bangladeshi actress Porimoni, nor is it her biopic. Shot in Kolkata, the film is directed by Siddharth Chakraborty and Souvik De, and explores societal realities through a chilling supernatural story.
At the heart of the story is a teenager named Pori, whose life appears ordinary but hides a complicated past. The film weaves together chapters of fear, love, crime and responsibility.
Director Souvik De explained, “Initially, Parimoni was just a horror concept. But as we developed it, I realized it’s not only about fear; it’s a reflection of society. Many fears are hidden in our daily lives without us even noticing. Through this film, we aim to reveal some of these truths beneath the supernatural veil.”
Tanushree Chakraborty plays Pori’s mother, while Rajatava Dutta, Devraj Bhattacharya and Pragya Goswami also feature in the cast. Shooting wrapped last month and the makers plan to release Pori Moni in West Bengal this October, coinciding with Diwali.
