Crunchyroll and Aniplex have confirmed that a new theatrical anime film titled Solo Leveling: Beyond the System has entered production. The film expands the story based on the popular Korean web novel and webtoon series.
According to Variety, the new project continues directly after the events of Solo Leveling Season 2. The makers have not revealed further plot details.
A-1 Pictures, known for Sword Art Online, produces the animation for the film. Aniplex, Netmarble, D&C Media, Kakao Piccoma and Crunchyroll handle production duties.
The original Solo Leveling story first launched as a web novel in 2016. It takes place in a world where mysterious portals, known as Gates, connect different dimensions to Earth. Hunters with special abilities fight monsters that emerge from these Gates.
The story follows Sung Jinwoo, a low-ranked Hunter widely known as the weakest of all. He suddenly gains the ability to level up. He faces repeated challenges and rises from the weakest Hunter to the strongest.
The original webtoon comes from creator Chugong, with illustrations by DUBU of REDICE Studio. H-goon adapted the series for publication under D&C Media.
The anime adaptation premiered in January 2024. The second season followed a year later. Reports suggest Season 3 may release at the end of 2026.
The voice cast includes Taito Ban, Aleks Le, Rebecca Wang, Makoto Furukawa, SungWon Cho, Haruna Mikawa, Daisuke Hirakawa and Ian Sinclair.
The franchise continues to grow in popularity. According to Billboard’s Book Hot 100 list in Japan, the latest physical release, Volume 25, ranked as the best-selling book for the week of 22–28 June.
