Veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has reaffirmed his passion for cricket, saying his love for the game remains as strong as it was during his formative years. Currently representing the Dubai Capitals in the Global Super League (GSL), the 38-year-old continues to showcase his enduring class and commitment.

Speaking to broadcasters ahead of Dubai’s clash with the Guyana Amazon Warriors, Shakib opened up about his motivation to keep playing.
“I still love cricket just like I did in U-15 or U-19. That love hasn’t faded. As long as I enjoy the game, I’ll continue playing. The day I stop enjoying it, I’ll stop,” he said.

His words offer insight into the mindset of a player who, despite no longer being a regular fixture in Bangladesh’s national team plans, remains devoted to the sport that made him a household name.

Shakib’s GSL debut was nothing short of sensational. He led from the front with an unbeaten 58 off 37 balls and returned remarkable bowling figures of 4 for 13, powering Dubai to a 22-run win. While his second outing against the Hurricanes was less impactful, Dubai’s management kept faith in their star all-rounder.

In today’s match against Guyana Amazon Warriors, Shakib struggled with the bat, managing just four runs. However, he bounced back with the ball, conceding only 21 runs from his four overs in an otherwise heavy 57-run defeat for his side — further underlining his value as a dependable bowler.

As major international tournaments loom, fans are increasingly calling for Shakib’s return to the Bangladesh side, especially given his recent form and unmatched experience. Though politics have at times overshadowed his place in the national set-up, performances like these continue to strengthen the case for his comeback.

For now, Shakib remains focused on enjoying his cricket. And if his own words are anything to go by, retirement is not yet on his radar — not while the passion still burns bright.
