Students of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) staged a blockade at the capital’s Chinmaitri signal for the third consecutive day on Thursday. They are protesting the construction of a secretariat on their research field.
During the protest, the students demonstrated in front of the Agargaon Public Works Complex.
They chanted the slogan, “Gobeshonay gorbo desh, sobar age Bangladesh” (We will build the country through research, Bangladesh comes first).
The students have been protesting to demand the return of the Old Trade Fair ground to SAU for research purposes. They oppose plans to build a Secretariat or hold any other fair on the site. On Wednesday, they issued a 12-hour ultimatum to the organisers to clear the field, warning of further protests if their demand was not met.
