Actress Runa Khan, known for her diverse performances in films such as Halda and Chitkini, is set to appear in the new independent film Jolpobon, which explores the lives and struggles of people living in Bangladesh’s haor region.
Directed by Rajon Talukdar, the film began shooting in Sunamganj’s haor areas on 15 August. Filming is scheduled to continue throughout the month.
Speaking about the project, Runa said Jolpobon is essentially a story about waiting and the lives of people in the haor region. She will play a character named Nirala.
“I do not want to reveal much more at this stage. I joined the project because I liked the character. It is shaping up to be a very good film, and I hope we can give audiences something worthwhile,” she said.
Jolpobon is an independent production, with the director and many members of the cast and crew making their feature-film debuts.
Talukdar studied filmmaking at the Bangladesh Film and Television Institute.
Runa said she was enjoying working with the newcomers and praised their potential.
The film also stars Sushanta Prithviraj and Samiul Haque in the two principal roles.
Sushanta is a member of Prachyanat Theatre, while Samiul studied theatre at Jahangirnagar University. Several local performers, many of whom are involved in theatre, have also joined the cast.
Meanwhile, Runa has several other films awaiting release. Zahid Hossain’s Leela Manthan is expected to be submitted to the certification board soon, with the release date to be announced after clearance.
She will also be seen in Masud Pathik’s Bak and Kaushik Sankar Das’s Dafon.
With several projects in production and awaiting release, Runa remains busy on the big screen.
