A Rohingya youth named Md Alamgir (18) was shot dead by another Rohingya individual inside the Nayapara Registered Camp in Teknaf on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred in Block D of the camp, according to Inspector Nure Azam, in-charge of the APBn (Armed Police Battalion) camp at Nayapara.
The deceased, Alamgir, was the son of the late Mohammad Hares of the same block.
Inspector Azam stated that a verbal altercation had broken out between Alamgir and Nurul Alam, a known Rohingya robber from Block C. During the dispute, Nurul Alam allegedly pulled out a one-shooter firearm and shot Alamgir in the chest, just below the ribs, before fleeing the scene.
Locals nearby rushed to assist the victim and took him to the nearby GK Hospital. However, the attending doctor declared him dead upon arrival.
The body was later handed over to Teknaf police for further procedures.
Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Teknaf Police Station Himel Roy confirmed that the body has been sent to the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Authorities are continuing their investigation and searching for the suspect.
