Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro criticised former President Donald Trump as an “existential threat to our freedoms and security” during a protest in New York on March 28.
Speaking at the No Kings rally, organised against ICE, the war in Iran and what organisers described as Trump’s “desire to rule over us as a tyrant”, De Niro urged that “he must be stopped now”.
Wearing an “I Love New York” badge, the star of ‘The Godfather’ told the crowd, “When the crowds are chanting ‘No Kings’, what I’m really hearing is ‘No Trump’.”
Trump has previously dismissed the protests, calling them “very small” and “very ineffective”, insisting that he is not a king and is working to improve the country.
The event attracted thousands of demonstrators and highlighted ongoing tensions surrounding immigration policies and the former president’s political influence.
