Bangladesh leg-spinner Rishad Hossain has once again been selected by the Hobart Hurricanes for the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26 season, following the competition’s draft held earlier today.

Rishad was also picked by the Hurricanes last season, but the 21-year-old was unable to make his debut in the Australian T20 league due to prior commitments in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The franchise was eventually forced to replace him with Afghan leg-spinner Waqar Salamkheil.

This time, however, the Hurricanes remain hopeful that Rishad will be available to take part in the tournament, which is scheduled to run from mid-December to late January. The exact fixture list for the season is expected to be released in July.

Rishad, who has been steadily making a name for himself in Bangladesh’s limited-overs set-up with his sharp leg-breaks and googlies, could become the latest Bangladeshi cricketer to feature in the BBL — a league that has seen few players from the South Asian nation over the years.

With the Hurricanes looking to bolster their spin department, Rishad’s inclusion may add a fresh edge to their bowling arsenal if he becomes available.
