Officer Cadet Lt Shakib Ahsan Rifat, a member of the Bangladesh Army, has made history by becoming the first person from Bangladesh to receive both the “International Sword of Honour” and “The Best International Award” at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
The prestigious awards were conferred by Her Royal Highness, Princess Anne, at a ceremony held on 12 December in London.

Lt Rifat, a member of the 89th BMA Long Course, achieved this remarkable distinction among nearly 200 cadets from 40 countries. His success marks a historic moment for Bangladesh, bringing immense pride not only to the Bangladesh Army but also to the entire nation.

The International Sword of Honour is awarded to the top cadet of each course, while The Best International Award recognises the cadet who excels in all aspects of military leadership, academics, and performance.
Lt Rifat’s dual recognition highlights his exceptional dedication, discipline, and skills, and sets a new benchmark for future cadets from Bangladesh.
This historic achievement underscores Bangladesh’s growing prominence in global military circles and serves as an inspiration for future generations of military professionals.
